The Department of Emergency Medicine System, a principal teaching hospital School of Medicine, seeks a dynamic and respected leader in academic Emergency Medicine for Vice Chairperson of Emergency Medicine in the Department of Emergency Medicine.
The fully integrated provider of high quality healthcare, consisting of the 731-bed Medical Center and 24 additional inpatient and outpatient facilities throughout Cuyahoga County. Most recently, The System has embarked on an ambitious $946 million Campus Transformation that includes a reconstruction of our main campus, including a new hospital, outpatient plaza, garages and other buildings. Construction of the new inpatient facility is set to be completed in 2022.
Conducting a national search for a Vice Chair of the Emergency Medicine Department, to help lead the transformation of medical care – paving the future for medical research, education, and clinical care. With strong leadership in the Department of Emergency Medicine and alignment with the health system’s service line organization, the Department has demonstrated outstanding clinical growth and recognition for clinical excellence and financial success. This position will be proposed for a faculty appointment with School of Medicine; Department of Emergency Medicine. The Department has had significant growth over the past several years with the addition of 3 community emergency departments, expansion of our fellowship programs, and growth in our pre-hospital care programs. The Vice Chair is expected to collaborate with the Chair on developing clinical, educational, and research programs to further the growth of the Department. Demonstrated leadership in clinical operations, innovative teaching programs, and/or research will be a key factor in the selection of the successful candidate.
Program of deliberate succession planning and leadership development. The successful applicant to this position must have the background, interest and ability to assume a leadership position in the organization, including potentially a future Chair role. While there is stable leadership of the Department, the existing Chair is committed to the development and mentoring of the Vice Chair towards an eventual potential Chair role.
The Vice Chair will help drive innovative strategy for the creation of a Department of Emergency Medicine for the 21st Century rebuild the main hospital campus over the next few years. Success in this critical role also requires an appreciation of population health, health equity, and reducing health disparities through understanding of root causes, mechanisms and interventions, and a desire to apply these insights to improve the delivery of care. Important research work conducted by the Department of Emergency Medicine faculty include bench research in cellular mechanisms of ischemia/reperfusion, treatment of opioid overdose and dependence, management of heart failure exacerbation, and the treatment of acute stroke, among other interests. Qualified applicants should hold an MD, DO, or MD/PhD, and must be board certified in Emergency Medicine. The applicant must be qualified for a faculty appointment with School of Medicine; Department of Emergency Medicine at the Associate or Professorial level. The successful applicant should have prior operational leadership experience and a management degree is preferred. Applicants should be eligible for employment in the US and for an Ohio medical license. Compensation and Tenure will be commensurate with experience and achievement.
