Overview This is a highly visible role that has responsibility in driving predictable execution on projects. The Program Manager will work with embedded software development engineers, software test engineers, and product owners in managing agile development. He/She will also coordinate with hardware development, server/cloud based Windows application software development team, customer support, marketing, and operations to establish cadence on projects.
The Program Manager will need to be a self-starter to quickly engage, have abilities to network and stay engaged with key stakeholders, drive improvements by gaining deeper understanding of issues thru retrospectives and 360 reviews, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. To be successful, the person needs a strong foundation in system level product engineering and knowledge of modern software development processes. The role requires good time management skills and the ability to focus on multiple agile teams and projects. The person in this role will be measured by his/her ability to establish and meet stake holder expectations. This requires skills in expectation management, project planning, risk management, and driving alignment across cross functional groups.
Responsibilities • AGILE MANAGEMENT: Own and drive the agile practice (Scrumban) in the embedded software development team. Work with engineering leaders to plan, organize, and improve execution. Maintain both physical and JIRA Kanban boards. Organize and run the standup meetings. Identify, escalate, and resolve blockers and unplanned work assignments. Manage a minimum of 5 concurrent agile projects. Maintain Confluence pages and JIRA databases to reflect the latest status and workload on the projects. Ensure there is clearly prioritized project backlog, tracking, and control of WIP. •
PROGRAM MANAGEMENT: Plan and organize periodic cross functional program management meetings to establish project cadence. Ensure cross functional stake holders expectations and decisions are well coordinated. Stake Holders: product management for release content management, customer support for tracking field issues, marketing for beta testing, operations for qualifying and coordinating firmware releases. Communicate periodically and effectively program status, dashboards, and risk registers. Drive JIRA tickets curation meetings for managing workload backlogs and planning for future releases. •
ENGINEERING OPERATIONS REVIEW: Team up with engineering leadership team to conduct quarterly engineering operations reviews by managing agenda, presentation templates, tracking action item registry, and maintaining Confluence pages associated with the embedded software organization. • PROCESS IMPROVEMENTS: Work with peers to continuously improve agile methods and program management process
Qualifications EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: • Must have an undergraduate degree in engineering, science, or mathematics. • Preferred candidates with certification as Scrum Masters and PMP. Experience Requirements • Must have recent 10 years of Program Management experience with products involving design of hardware and associated software. • Must have recent 3 years of experience as a Scrum Master for embedded software development. • Must have foundational experience with systems companies in hardware, firmware, and software development processes • Must have engineering operations management, budget forecasting, and expense tracking experience in the last 5 years • Must have process and quality improvement experiences in the last 5 years. • Must be very proficient in verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
• Required candidates with competencies in Excel, PowerPoint, JIRA, and Confluence. • Preferred candidates with understanding application of Test Driven Software Development methods
